Yohee Taizan (9th generation) (1856-1922)
A leading figure in the Kyoto ceramic art world during the Meiji and Taisho eras. He is the second son of the third generation Kyubee Kiyomizu. Born in Kyoto. In 1878, he was adopted by the Tayama family and succeeded the 9th Yohee. The Taizan family, along with the Kinkozan family and the Yasuda family, was the representative pottery of Awataguchi-yaki, and after the Meiji Restoration, they tried to export pottery early, but the 9th Yohee played an important role as the founder. Based on white glaze pottery, he added 10 gold hands to traditional color paintings to make a vessel called Kyosatsuma, which used abundant gold colors, and won the silver prize at the Expo in each country. It is said that he abolished the Awataguchi kiln in 1897 and started Nanzan-yaki in Yawata, southern Kyoto.
