平安時代の武将、源頼光が率いた頼光四天王が囲碁をしている所に妖怪たちが現れるという場面が描かれています。
戊辰戦争の風刺画でもあり、手前の三人が薩摩藩・長州藩・土佐藩をあらわし、後ろの妖怪たちは幕府軍をあらわしています。ダブルミーニングが散りばめられた面白い作品です。
