This painting is one of Yoshitoshi Tsukioka “A Hundred Figures of the Moon” series.

It depicts a plum spirit called Rahusen.
Rahusen appears in an ancient work titled “Ryuzyou-roku” written by Ryu Sougen of the Tang Dynasty in China.
The title, “Getumeirinka Bijinkitaru”(Beauty Comes Under the Moonlight Fores) was taken from a seven-word poem in “Nine Poems on Plum Blossoms” by Kou Kei, a Ming Dynasty poet whose works were inspired by Ryu Sougen's “Longcheng Records.
