この屛風に描かれている秋の草花は、いわゆる、秋の七草である。
尾花、桔梗、女郎花、藤袴、葛、萩、菊が描かれており、秋の野の花が咲き乱れる野原を描いている。
このような野原を散策して短歌や俳句を詠むことが古来より行われており、伝統的な日本文学、日本美術、茶器、調度品、反物などの工芸品においては古くから好んで描かれる定番モチーフであった。
