Designated a national treasure in the Meiji era (1868-1912), it withstood the Great Kanto Earthquake and was regarded as a masterpiece of wooden architecture, but its life was cut short by a massive air raid in March 1945. A reconstruction plan was developed in the same form, and the present main hall was completed in 1958. This is a precious piece of the building as it was before it was destroyed by fire.

明治時代に国宝に指定され、関東大震災にも耐え、木造建築の最高傑作と称されたが、1945年3月の大空襲でその生涯を閉じた。その後、同じ形式で再建計画が練られ、1958年に現在の本堂が完成した。焼失前の姿をそのまま残す貴重なものです。
