Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916) was born in Makuzuhara, Kyoto (currently Higashiyama Ward) as the fourth son of the first conductor Rakuchozo (Rakuchozo / Makuzuchozo).

Kozan, who started the pottery industry following his father's footsteps, teaches Okayama's traditional craft "Mushiake ware" in the first year of the Meiji era.

After that, he moved to Yokohama, where he opened the Makuzuyo kiln and worked with his craftsmen to manufacture pottery for export. He achieved brilliant results at national and international expositions and was active as a representative potter of the Meiji era.

宮川香山（1842-1916）は、京真葛原（現在の東山区）で初代楽長造の4番目の息子として生まれました。
父の足跡をたどって陶芸を始めた香山は明治1年に岡山の伝統工芸「虫明焼」を教えています。
明治3年、横浜に移り真葛窯を開き職人と協力して輸出用の陶器を製造しました。 国内外の博覧会で輝かしい成果を上げ、明治時代の代表的な陶芸家として活躍。
初代香山の父、長造が使用していた真葛印です。
初代の香山が岡山の虫明で陶器を作っていた時代の作品です。
