About Shinsui Ito

Born in Tokyo,Fukagawa (1898～1972)

He studied under Kiyokata Kaburagi at the age of 13 and became a prominent figure from an early stage. Since then, he has worked on illustrations and prints, and was selected for the Bunten exhibition at the age of 17. After receiving an award at the Peace Memorial Tokyo Expo in 1922, he created sensual and sweet beauty paintings. He continued to draw beautiful women, thinking that his longing for beautiful women would not change even if the times and customs changed.

13歳の時に鏑木清方に師事し、早くから頭角を現す。以後、挿絵や版画に取り組み、若干17歳で文展に入選する。大正11年、平和記念東京博覧会で受賞後、官能的で甘美な美人画を生み出した。時代と風俗は変わっても美人へのあこがれは不変であるとの考えにたって，美女を描きつづけた。
