Baisen Hirai(1889-1969)
Born in Kyoto.
As a painter of the Shijo School, he received instruction in Japanese painting from Takeuchi Seiho and Kōkyō Taniguchi, and was a central figure in the Bunten Exhibition.
He also participated in the artistic competition of the 10th Universal Olympic Games in Los Angeles as a representative of Japanese painting with Kaii Higashiyama and Shiko Munakata.
In addition to his paintings, he is also known for his deep knowledge of the ancient art of swimming and for serving as a referee for the Japan Swimming Championships.
Although many of his later works can be said to be uniform, many of his early works are unique in composition and motifs.
