The main features of Ko-Tamba ware are the beautiful colors brought about by natural glazes and the unique pottery technique known as "shinogi."

Traditionally, Tamba ware is known for not using artificial glazes. When fired at high temperatures over a long period of time, the firewood used as fuel turns to ash and falls onto the vessel. When it melts, it becomes a natural glaze, bringing out the beautiful colors of green and dark brown.


古丹波に見られる大きな特徴は、自然釉がもたらす美しい発色や「しのぎ」と呼ばれる独特の陶芸技法です。

伝統的に、丹波焼は人工的な釉薬を使わなかったことで知られます。高温で長い時間をかけて焼成した際、燃料の薪が灰となって器にかかり、溶けると自然釉になって、緑色や鳶色の美しい色合いを発色しました。
